If that egg had stayed in the duck for another day, you likely would have had an egg-within-an-egg. I don't have ducks, but I've seen that occasionally in chickens. It can have many causes, but most of the time it's due to stress. After a major change, or a bad scare, an egg can be "held" by the hen, delaying the trip through her system. The first egg ends up going through all or part of the egg creation process again. Unless it happens regularly, it probably isn't be a big issue.I went out to collect the eggs this morning as I knew one of my ducks weren't laying in the nesting boxes. I found this egg and I am so confused. It is a normal egg with a second membrane attached to the outside of the egg. There is even what seems to be some fluid that feels like the white of an egg that is slightly stuck between the membrane and the actual egg. Has anyone got any ideas of why this has happened?
