if i buy six silkie eggs, assuming all are fertile and incubation is done correctly, what is the experienced hatching percent? i've heard it is low?

Can be zero to all 6. There really are too many variables to account for to accurately predict. Strain, parents, diet, travel, time of egg collection, storage, handling, PO, incubation parameters, etc all play a role.

Our first attempt at hatching Silkies we got 2 out of 6 (bought) fertile so 30% our second we got 9 out of 30 (bought) again around 30% third attempt (bought) was a complete failure due to incubator and this time we got 7 out of 9 from our own eggs we have another 9 due to hatch on the 21st these ones are our own eggs too. Our conclusion is that Silkie eggs do not seem to travel very well as with all the hatches we have done we have always included other breeds and they have a much better hatch rate.

I agree! From our own birds we have been getting 90-100% hatching rate- but from shipped, its been as low as 4% (as in 1 hatched out of 25 eggs!)! It would be really hard to predict!

I've only tried silkies once and they were shipped eggs, I got 1 out of 13 to hatch

Wow...I hope I have better hatching results. I had 9 eggs shipped to me from Pennsylvania area and I live in Dallas Texas. I was worried about the shipping and all and how it effected hatching rates. But so far I have 100% fertility and all are doing great. I go into lockdown tomorrow and I'm hoping for success.

I think it's just a chance you take when you buy hatching eggs of ANY kind.
