I have three chicks that look like this and based on day old chick pics I'm leaning heavily towards Black Sex Linked. Most other breeds of black chicks have more of the cream color that runs the full length from the neck down to the belly. Mine have cream on the neck and belly, but it's darker on chest. You can also look at the legs to see if your chicks feet have more or less black than others breeds to narrow it down further. Barred rocks also have a light spot on their heads from the pics that I've seen.I ordered White Leghorn chicks from a hatchery, and this is what they sent me instead. I’m going between Black Sex Link and Barred Rock. What do you think the breed is? Hatchery won’t answer my email or phone calls.View attachment 4051355
Hoover’s. I got them a couple of weeks ago and still no response.Which hatchery?
Many don't have office hours on the weekend.
Hoover’s! I got them a couple weeks ago and it looks like they are starting to get stripes on the wings.Pretty sure they're not Plymouth Barred Rock. They typically have a white dot on the back of their head, indicating the barring gene. Also, even from a young age, you can see small stripes starting to form in their little wings. Their legs would be yellow with a dark wash on the front.
Which hatchery did you use?
Any updates? Did they develop barring? Did hoover ever get back to you?Hoover’s! I got them a couple weeks ago and it looks like they are starting to get stripes on the wings.
