A neighbor's dog has killed one of my pekin hens & injured a very typey pair of black runners which may have to be put down tomorrow, all of which are under a year.

I bought the runners at a swap so I can't contact the breeder to find out what they charge for young pairs & I didn't see any pekin hens near me on craigslist ... just a khaki campbell for $50.

I am so sorry for your loss, and possibly more... :(

For legal purposes, they would be listed as livestock and value may be less than what you would be happy with... $50 for a KC hen sounds a bit steep, IMO, but a value of at least $25 per female and $15-20 per drake is a start... those are just layer type prices...

I don't really know but their intended use might be an arguing point. If they were going to be a source of income like selling eggs or something then you might get a higher value.

Yeah, I thought $50 was a bit pricey, there were also pekin drakes for $25 each. Crazy! I had figured about $25 for a pekin hen, the cost of the runners is what's stumping me.

I'm going to be so upset if the vet visit doesn't go well, they're so silly & I was really looking forward to breeding them this coming spring.

:fl on your vet visit... make a copy if the vet bill too, they should be responsible for any of those charges as well...

I agree. I've had Rouens, Pekins, Indian runners, and more.. and never spent more than 20 (after shipping even in cold weather and special arrangements) each for a duck.
BUT I would 100% absolutely be presenting every get bill and receipt for anything needed to that guy and expect him to pay that in full.

as this is a usa question I cant really comment on price as I am in the in uk but I would get replacements asap same age sex etc and give him the bill, if he is a good neighbour its the least he can do
