I have a rooster who i suspect has a respiratory infection/illness likely due to the temperature change. It started about 4 days ago and so far no other chickens have shown symptoms

The main symptom that i noticed is his breathing sounds squeaky but i recently noticed that he has some clear nasal discharge. He also has shown some exercise intolerance and will start open mouth breathing.

What is the treatment protocol for respiratory infections in chickens. I do have some Liquamycin LA-200 but its a year past expiration

Check inside his beak for any signs of lesions or canker. Make sure his crop is emptying overnight and that your coop has adequate ventilation.

Sometimes respiratory symptoms can be due to something environmental like adding new bedding/dusty straw/shavings, feed that is dusty or even heavy ammonia in closed up spaces (poor ventilation).

A lot depend on the bacterial or bacteria-like respiratory disease you are trying to treat. For Mycoplasma, then use Tylosin. For Infectious Coryza, use a sulfa antibiotic.

Im definitely going to try and wait a couple more days to see if its environmental. He is currently inside right now.
Before his symptoms started the coop had a strong ammonia smell so i aired out the coop and added more shavings. They also eat a feed that is quite dusty.

Hopefully he'll improve on his own over the next couple of days.

Keep us posted.
