Just rescued this cutie from my backyard. Minor injuries on back and wing joint. Unable to fly at the moment. May have been dropped by a hawk - not sure how else it got into the yard like this. Washed up and sprayed Vetericyn on injuries.
I’m in rural Olympia, WA near a creek. Bird is quite small, grey/brown with white belly, webbed feet, thin beak/bill, brown eyes. Any thoughts on what kind of bird I rescued?

It looks like some kind of duck but not one I have seen in this part of the country. Sure is cute.
Are you going to care for it until it can fly? Thank goodness you were able to rescue it.

I’ve got no clue what it is, most likely a wild duck. Can you get a photo of it standing upright? Are there any markings that stand out to you that might help with ID?

Disappointing Abs

I’ll try for another photo later. She (?) is resting and pretty shaken up right now.
I agree on the hooded merganser after looking at juvenile photos.
Yes, I’ll keep inside while healing, though I assume I won’t be able to add to my flock.
