Hi, newbie here! Looking to get 6-9 layers do to the amount of eggs we buy a month. I know I want Barred Rocks and was looking for at least 1 or 2 other breeds that will go good with the Rocks docile attitudes. I'm in NW Tennessee so winter's aren't to bad for extreme cold weather. Appreciate any and all opinions! Thank you!!

Welcome! You can basically raise any breed you want with barred rocks, but some similar sized, high egg production breeds are Rhode Island reds, Leghorns, wyandottes, or you could even try getting some other colors of rocks such as silver penciled. Good luck with your future flock!

Thank you! Maybe I've been reading or watching to much YouTube. Was thinking after my reading that a RIR was to aggressive to be with BR or BO??

my favorite are the buff orpingtons, but i also have olive eggers and easter eggers and silver laced wyandottes with my barred rocks and white plymouth rocks and ameraucanas, i have a total of 16....they all get along very well....

My barred rock is pretty dominate. She is people friendly but a bit of a bully. My langshan is big and bad enough to keep her in line without being a bully. I have a RIR too. She gets along great with the entire flock. My buff orps vary in personality but are my favorites along with Easter Eggers and cuckoo marans.
I think it just depends on the individual chicken.

I have had RIRs that are aggressive, but I have also had some that were mello. So I think it depends on the bird. However I have loved the Wyandotte's temperments, and also the Buff Orpingtons. I usually have to have one Buff Orpington, and 1 Black Star in each of my groups, because of their temperaments, and personalities. Good luck, and have fun with your girls!

My barred rocks like to peck people, but have no problems with any of my other birds, and I've got a bit of a mixed flock. 2 BR, 2 RIR, 2 Light Brahma, 2 Silverlight Green Eggers.

The silverlights have very small eggs compared to the RIR. Only ones I know to be laying at the moment.

Not to hijack the op's post, but I'd love to see a pic if your silverlight. I'm not familiar with them.
