What temp will fry the eggs?

My post was entirely tongue-in-cheek...forgive me if it was not humorous, in any way.

I have still airs and consistently run 101-102F in the center on the eggs. I ran one hatch with part of the bator at 104F (eggs were rotated so not in that temp the whole day). All made it to hatch day and the only ones that didn't hatch were due to a low humidity issue since it was the first time I was hatching in my lg. Even in a forced air eggs should survive temps of 102 but may hatch early. It's over that when you start to have losses before they are ready to hatch.

I had a temp spike of 107 for at least an hour (could have been longer it was overnight) on my first hatch this year and still managed 4 out of 12. I'm sure the temp spike did not cause the others not to hatch because when I cracked open the eggs after day 24 they never started to develop. While I agree that the best plan is to keep the temperature constant, don't panic if you get a spike if it's not too long at that temp.

I have a question...

If you have a temp spike in the first few days of incubating, will it kill all of the eggs? even though they're not really developed yet?

the spike was about 107* and i have no idea how long it was like that. I left the bator, temp stable, and went to bed around 1:30AM, found it that way around 10AM the next morning....freaked out, cooled the eggs and re-adjusted it to 101*.

my hovabator is a total pain in the butt and has done this to me before. that was a bad hatch but i dont know if it was due to the spike on night 1/day 2 or just because of dud eggs (1 roo over nearly 50 hens). I had to toss a lot of the eggs after week 1 & 2. some blood rings, some non-developed.

I recently got more eggs from the same woman, but she has a lot more chickens now and im sure a lot more roosters. they are in the same incubator as before so we will see what happens this time. so far no spikes...

A spike that early is not nearly as serious as a spike in a developed egg/chick.

At that point they are VERY resilient to temp swings. Really should be all right.

I had a viable chick hatch - mind you just one of a dozen but still, hatch after a temp spike of 134. Yes, 134. His name is Faith, he hatched a week after the spike with help, he had another sib who hatched but then died.

Just don't give up on any hatch even with a "deadly spike" - miracles are out there. Faith is my miracle BC Marans and would not have happened if I'd just tossed all those eggs after the spike. Hence Faith, faith to go on and try.

And after a year of nearly 80% roos, my lone marans may indeed be a girl. And wouldn't that be something.

Regardless of swings - let em run full term. Many times, nature finds a way anyway.
Thank you! That is so encouraging. I have the power go out for 7 hours yesterday but the temperature never decreased below 80°. So I'm hopeful that the 126 eggs will continue to develop normally and hatch.

I also had a bator jump from 99.5 to 110 for 6 hours till I noticed. It happened after I added warm water
Found out little giant bators do this often so now I use room temp or cool only
Out of 12 eggs I only lost 1 the other 11 babies all hatched and nobody had issues. Very healthy
So I agree don’t give up
To cool my eggs I just brought them out and left them to cool naturally
You don’t want ti shock the eggs
I dumped the water in bator added cool water and it ran perfect after that

What day was that? This happened to me last week on day 17 and I’m super anxiously waiting now on day 20 but seeing/hearing nothing.. mine went up to 110 for about 4 hours (on day 17)

Praying there is hope

Wondering what day was your spike? Everything I’m reading is that if the spike is later in their development it’s bad. My spike was on day 17 at 110 for 4 hours… any hope??
