What time of day do chickens lay eggs?

Do chickens tend to lay first thing in the morning? Mid day? Afternoon? Early evening? Or is it just completely random depending on bird?

Most of my chickens are done laying their eggs around mid-morning. However, as others have already mentioned, it is not surprising to find an egg earlier or well into the afternoon.

Mine usually lay between 8am and 3pm.
But it's not really 'like clockwork'.

It takes about 25 hours for an egg to form, a new ova is released shortly after an egg is laid.

A new egg could be laid approximately every 25-26 hours, so an hour or so later every day until one is laid late in the day and another ova might not be released until the following day, so a day off. BUT..every hen is different and only time will tell what a particular hen/pullets schedule might be. Not every hen/pullet lays every day..some only lay a few a week.

Thanks for the responses. I'm anxiously awaiting my first egg and was wondering if there was a time of day I could expect it. Guess time will tell when and then what kind of 'schedule' my ladies might have. Thinking once they start laying, an afternoon check and maybe an evening one. Thanks all!

When they first start laying it could be any time of the day or night....
...until they get things synced up within a month or so.
