It's illegal to just take someone's chickens, but these chickens are obviously mistreated and neglected, and if they've been spending several consecutive days on Teresa's property without the guy coming over and asking if she's seen his chickens... wouldn't you consider them abandoned strays? If someone abandons their animal, is it still considered theft to take them in?

Teresaann24- I am not offended by what you are doing, I TOTALLY understand what you are going through and your motivation. What I said came from expierence and personal challenges. It may seem like the right thing to do is feed them, but it is not. I am glad that you left him a note. I would take it one step further and send him a certified letter and offer to buy his birds at fair market value (arround here $10-12 for layers). I wish you the best of luck and I hope that he will be rational about the situation, like you are.

They have been here for 3 weeks now. Before this they were caged for about 2 months and before that they was here about 6 weeks.

Thank you for understanding. In my letter I did ask if he would consider selling them.

I doubt I will hear anything from him.....Like I have said before he does not seem very nice.

The rooster still never showed up all day so I am thinking he went and sold him thinking I was going to turn him in because of the shape the roo was in.

I would think that the SMART thing to do is call the authorities and not assume they are stray. I don't walk on the grey line, its to easy to fall on the wrong side.

I deff do not want to get into trouble. When I have been the good guy in this all along. I think at first i just jumped because of how mad and fed up I was of this guy. I am willing and able to sit this out and do whatever it takes to PROPERLY resolve this matter in a good way.

LOL, I didnt offer a price in my letter I just said I'd buy them if he would let me because I wanted to resolve this problem fast. That he wouldnt speak to me so I didnt know what to think and the birds have been at my house for 3 weeks and I have been caring for them. The thing If he wants his birds he has to come to my house cause they never leave my property. So Maybe if he decides he does not want to lose his birds or get into any trouble I will be able to talk to him face to face.
