Are there recommendations for favorite brand/ store/ type of wood chips for use in the chicken run? Would any mulch work? I am looking to control odor on my run, which is currently just dirt. Also, how deep does it need to be?

If you have any companies in your area that do tree trimming, see if they will deliver their wood chips to you. They have to pay to dump them, so if they can get rid of them for free, they might like that.

Some things to keep in mind:

They may have a LOT of chips to dump, so you need to have a place for them to go, and a way for them to get to that place.

If you can't find a company, look at https://getchipdrop.com.

x3 on tree trimmers. Depending on your area they may deliver a pile for cost of gas or in my neck of the woods they're flat out free, as they just need to get rid of them.

Some communities have utility companies or city services that let you pick up free chips, you carry.

If you don't have room for a pile, then undyed mulch (chunky as possible) or bark nuggets from a landscape company should do the job.

A few inches is fine, I add to it as needed (i.e. mud or odor are starting to form or become noticeable).

Thanks a lot!
