The ducks right side of its neck is swollen from the top down....is this because of drinking so much so fast?

Thank you!

do you have water available with food? it could be from eating a lot and not having water to swallow it down with. my ducks often eat too fast and sit there with lumps in their throat till i show them the water is right there.

The swelling is more likely caused from food rather than water. Eating too fast and with out water to wash it down-

It could however be totally unrelated to either. Does the swelling only appear when they are eating? Is it a once off occurrence you were asking about or something that happens alot- or is the swelling there all the time??

I too am anxious to hear the results of this question. We used to see this problem with pigeons I used to treat as a wildlife rehabillitator, but that was over 20 years ago and for the life of me I can't recall now what we did for that problem. They would have their whole crop stuffed full, though, not just one side.

Breathing was fine as far as I could tell and still is. Did seem to have trouble drinking when that side was swollen the water would run out the back sides of its mouth and some out nose holes but not now. This only happened once that we know of....it could have drank all the water.....it has two spots to get water from and the one has that cut out moon maybe I think that still had water but it did not know where or how to get it. But by the time I went back in my daughters room its neck looked fine she had just gave it water but a big ball is like right on top of its chest in the front equally in size? What is this just the way food and water sit in there? Duck seems fine we played with the duck out of the cage for a while. It was just the right side and seemed like you could see through the skin kinda it was a bit red looks normal now. We always keep water in there with the food and it eats then drinks with almost every bite. We are giving it water every half hour to get it use to the water so it don't over drink in case it was out. We will return water full time soon again.

Thank you all I will keep a watch.

My pekin ducklings are almost always out of food and water when I get home from work- I refill both and of course they makes pigs of themselves like they will never have another meal. They often do eat too fast and too much and are have an extended full crop and swelling in the neck and throat. It can actually feel hard to the touch when this happens. It doesnt stay long - and I know it is only from the food and water.
If your duck was full like mine get- its ability to drink normally would have been because they dont have the same flexibility in the neck when its full of food waiting to empty into the crop.
Sounds like it was most likely eating and drinking too fast- But please post again if you notice any other symptoms- or if happens again when food and water can not be the issue.
