What's the best way to get rid of moles?

Thanks all for the suggestions. I'll stay away from another dog. I already have 3 too many!

I'll try the grub treatment, that sounds easy and will let you know if it works.

I have gophers. It hurts my heart to do it, but the garden feeds my family...I stick the garden hose down the hole and flood them. It slows them down, which is about all that works. Root crops are in pots and soon we will have to have raised beds on ground cloth. The moles and gophers are winning.
I tried the juicy fruit gum, I think they really liked it. I tried the poison, I tried the blood meal...which helped repel them, but has to be a constant application. I need a small little guy with a small little .22 and small little spelunking gear. I need a G.I. Joe hit man.

This REALLY happened to my friend last year! Cat brought the dead mole in and laid it on her chest while she was sleeping!!

I can always tell when our cats have been successful. The DW will let out a scream that can be heard for miles when she goes in the bathroom at night. The cats either place the catch/kill in the tub or right on the rug in front of the commode. The DW will either step on it in the dark or hear it in the tub, because it is not quite dead yet. I never get a full nights sleep in the summer, for I have to check out the bathroom for her.

OK - so I was already laughing at Cindi's response, but the mental image of the bathroom thing really did me in. I've actually had a couple of catch-and-release snakes slither through my living room in the past. I don't have a kitty door anymore. They have to show themselves free of vermin before they enter.

Yeah - I was going to suggest kitties. You'll have to weigh the pros & cons of that.

we used to have gopher problems but their well gone now, we would stick the hose in one of the mounds for a minute or so then pour about two or three cups of gas down the hole and then a match and puff at the next few mounds you will have a little boom and some smoke and no more gophers/moles. Mean yes but no broken legged horses from twisting legs in mole/gopher holes

I tried all of the poisons and traps and nothing seemed to work. My barn cat is so fat and lazy he's useless for mole killing. I had a friend tell me about these new traps called NoMol. I ordered 4 of them and did catch a big mole the first time I tried them. Jury is still out on their total effectiveness for me. You may do a search for NoMol or go to www.wildlifecontrolsupplies.com I think that's the place that distributes the NoMol traps.

sounds good.. can u clarify ( don't laugh at my ?) when u put the hose down in the hole are u putting water in it or is the hose for putting the gas in? we fight with gophers as well.. they don't mix well with horses for sure!

last year we used one of those solar sonic repellers.. its range isn't very far but it did seem to keep the moles out of the garden....our cats have never gotten one of the big moles ( which i had never actually seen in person until our dog killed one.. WEIRD is all i can say) our cats get the mini mole looking things though .. i guess i don't really know what those are because for YEARS i always thought those were the moles .. until i saw the "REAL" mole .. weird..

My cats don't seem to catch too many moles ~ but they are great at getting voles. The voles here create more damage as they eat the roots of my plants.

My cats also bring me gifts. I learned that when Patch comes to the door and meows very loudly he is bearing gifts. Last summer I was entertainment for all as I was on my hands and knees trying to retrieve a "gift" frog from under the couch! He usually kills the voles ~ but the frogs come alive!

LOL yes they do! My kitty leaves them right on the back porch to be stepped on when you're making your way in! Also last year, my kitty brought one up to the carport and placed it just so that I ran over it when I was backing out, only to find it squashed

on my drive later that day!

Oh and I almost forgot! Weinerdogs go for them too! My girls are crate trained and anytime they've "stolen" something or are attempting to hide it, they take it to the crate. They shared their sleeping crate with a decomposing mole once for at least three days before I smelled it.
