What's up with the 'TRILLING'

My chicks do that and now that they are outside all day they trill constantly. The Marans, Dumpling, is the most talkative. She was the first to trill, she also coos and clucks.

Mine did this yesterday for the first time. It’s the only one I’ve heard.

I absolutely LOVE the chicken trill! When the babies are old enough to be able to perch on the sides of the brooder is when I first heard the sound. After careful observation, I determined it was their Happy Sound.

I am particularly undone when a chicken being held in my arms, or which has started to fall asleep on my lap starts to trill.

Wait until you hear a rooster "growl.". Now THAT is startling!
Growling is pretty cool but our main rooster makes this sound like an orc in LOTR. Freaked my wife out the first time she heard it and she still doesn't trust him because it was such an unnatural sound from a chicken.

i have a buff orpington named rosey here in the picture. she had a problem with egg laying. i had to keep her inside my house to keep her from so much exposure to light so it would slow down her egg production. she is a pet and very important to us. we love her dearly. anyway when i would go in to sit with her as i would hold her she would make that sound. i didnt know either what but someone on her said they thought it was love. i'll take that! she loves to be held and loved on she is a very special little hen.
I have a chick that trills when she’s snuggled up in my shoulder! It seems to be a sound of contentment in her case. On a separate issue, this chick is a Seabright bantam chick that is the lone survivor of a cat attack. She’s only a couple of months old and too small to put with my big chickens. I brought her in the house and she’s been staying in a pet carrier at night and when we aren’t home, but that’s not a permanent solution. What does your hen stay in, in your house? Any other advice for indoor chickens lol?

That (I think) is the "air raid siren" roosters do.

My 8 week old, new bantom house chicken that I have had for about 5 days just trilled in my ear as she is currently perched in my hoodie cuddled into my neck and hair. She had about 30 seconds of Trilling in my ear and now it sounds like she is on her way to sleep. I feel chosen.

Your Rosie is adorable. I have a buff orpington named Buffy who is my entire world. She has raised every one of my girls while she co-parents with me lol I always let her brood on my bed and when the babies come where they hatch sometimes I give her just hatched your chicks if I can't find good fertilized eggs hello I put them in a clear tote and they pretty much come wherever I am so the babies get used to me as they grow up with mama. Mama's not afraid of me whatsoever and let me interact with the babies constantly and it makes them very attached. I do have a Rosie as well except she's a barred Rock unfortunately she's blind she was attacked by a hawk then we had to accommodate for her which I don't mind doing of course cuz I love her death
