Wheaten and Blue wheaten Marans Discussion Thread

2 out of 17 does that mean those dark eggs are that hard to hatch? I just hatched some blue wheaten eggs got a good hatch 10 out of 13 but were probably a 5 on the chart. My darker eggs 7 I can hardly get them to hatch _Plus the fertile on them suck but they are BCM.
Any help would be appreciated.
All my other eggs hatch fine cochins, and RIR. Even got shippped eggs from kentucky Cochin bathams Look like all 10 are developing

A bit off topic but what the heck is going with the new format? I haven't received anything since the change over then all of a sudden new postings and my Mozilla spell check doesn't work ???

Thanks,
Joe

Hey all,
I got my Wheatens yesterday and I thought I'd share my joy. We got them from a breeder who got hers directly from Bev Davis and has even beat out Bev in some shows here in Florida. Who knows if the last part is true, but we're just happy to have our chicks.
We ended up with 9 all total. 7 of them are a week old, one of these 7 is possibly a roo (I hope only one!) and also one of these is lame with a broken toe. (We were given her for free so we thought we'd take her and see how she does and hope for the best).
Now the other two are a bit over 2 weeks old. One of these is a pullet and one a roo. I think they are beautiful.

Here's the little ones. Can you spot the suspected male? (Probably not cause I think he's in the back)

These are the older ones. No trouble spotting the roo here! Look at the tail of the female here (in the back) - Does it look blue-ish to you? Good eye!

The roo with his very rooster-ish comb. We named him Caesar. The lady behind him we named Brigitte.

We are on day two with them and we noticed one of them had passed a bit of bloody poo. We are administering Corid per instructions found here at backyard chickens and I think they'll be ok.

Side note:
The Marans are sharing the brooder with a few 5 day old Opringtons a neighbor brought by that she picked up at a yard sale cause she heard "that you guys liked chickens!" (Seriously? who brings someone animals without asking if they want them first?) Guess I have to make that hen house a bit bigger than I planned.
