My chicks hatched shortly after Christmas. I am still waiting for an egg eventhough they have completely feathered and have wattles etc. They look like full grown hens. I have had red sex links and leghorn crosses they all started laying around 4-5 months.
Is this normal for BCM's?

I noticed these marans are getting quite big. I am used to leghorns and sexlinks, So they will be considered a large breed?

Marans are mostly bred for egg color and not production, so I would expect it to take a bit longer to begin and I wouldn't expect a lot of eggs from them. I haven't owned the BCM before but they are probably similar to others like them. I would say anywhere from 6-9 months depending on breeding.

My BCMs started at 5 months of age. However, they really didn't really start going strong until the second year.
