You should start getting pullet eggs at about 4-5 months, intermittently.

So you still have a wait ahead, but not as long as me!

My brahmas don't start laying until 8-9 months old!

Leghorns start laying at 18 weeks so about 4 months. Other pullets will start laying a few weeks to months later. I had one group of POL pullets that we moved to our new house, then they didn't start for 9 months. One of my old girls started back up in the dead of winter and started a chain reaction with everybody!

This year my most of them started at 20 weeks, but I'm waiting on some still and they are 23-24 weeks now.

oes anyone know how long they lay? I bought a leghorn that was laying when I bought her but she has stopped laying for about a month. How can you tell if they are too old to lay? I hve no idea how old she is

Most hens lay best in their 1st and 2nd years, but it is hard to say exactly how long they will lay. When chickens molt they will stop laying for a while, and one of my d'Uccles never lays an egg through summer or winter, but always in spring and fall. I have one hen that is laying still and she is getting up there in years, she is almost 6. She is a great layer of huge eggs.

Diet can also affect egg laying, what are you feeding her? Lice and mites will also slow or stop laying.

I feed her crumbles w/ grit included, cracked corn & kitchen scraps. She looks like she is in good health & does not get bullied by the other chickens.
I have a nice coop with a roosting bar & large nesting area, 5 boxes for 6 hens. She does not free range but I have a large run for them. 8 x 10 feet.

Okay, I just had a friend's dad want to kill her chickens because they weren't laying. I asked how old they were and she said 2. Her dad said that all chickens stop laying when they are two. I just laughed because it turns out they were just feeding them scratch and Flock Raiser. I told them to get some Layer and now their hens lay great. It made me mad that he would be so hasty to kill her chickens. Sorry, didn't mean to rant...

It Happens See Chickens Have a Period Where They Will Lay A lot Of eggs But Then They Stop Laying My Dad Thought Me This I think The Laying Months are Jan.-April So Don't Worry If She Hasn't Layed it's Just a Normal Thing They Go Through My Brahmas Weren't Laying For Months But Then I Bought Them So Egg Maker from Manna Pro and Now They Lay 1-2 Eggs Maybe You Should Do The Same It Could Work :)
