I have 2 D'Uccle chicks. They are only a few weeks old, but I can already tell one is a cockerel and the other a pullet. They have a little bit of color on their wings, but are predominantly a buff color right now. When do they begin to really get those dazzling colors?

He's about a week younger than my other one and already had a pretty red comb. He's smaller and feisty as heck too. If I can keep him (DH says no roosters. I have a very loud polish crested I have to rehome

. Th DH said maybe I could keep a banty, if it doesn't crow too much/ loud) I will name him Feisty.

Hmmm...glad you asked, since I was wondering the same thing (about when the colors change). They're pretty plain jane looking little chicks, aren't they??? I have one of each too (mine are 5 weeks old), and the little cockerel does have little black spots on his thigh feathers now. The little pullet doesn't.
I could tell mine was a cockerel by 2 1/2 weeks...his comb was just so much more prominant. By 3.5 weeks it was turning pretty pink.

These are my too Millie Fleurs. There almost a year old. I took at least two months for them two star developing a noticable amount of coloring. This photo was taken in october. and their color is still coming in now.

I have a little mille fleur d'uccle right now and she is predominately black with some brown on her head and wings. I was wondering if they came in different colors. I saw online that a guy had some that were yellow and some that were white with black specks. He called them mille fleur though.

I currently have Many colors of D'Uccles, Including Blue Mottled, Black Mottled, Self Blue (lavendar) Mille Fluer, Blue and Black as well as non recognized colors including Blue Mille Fluer and Lemon Mille Fluer. There are other colors still that I do not have.

By 4 weeks of age you can tell a D'Uccle Cockeral from a pullet. The comb will be bigger and redder than that of the pullet.
As to how long be for the pattern takes to fill out that can vary depending on the specific genetics of the individual bird involved.
But for Mille Fluer the older they get you will find theat each year they will get more and ore white on them.

Here is the link to the D'Uccle thread.
