I am curious when the little guys really find their voice. I need to find a new home for him, and really want to know how much time I have, he is a 6 1/2week Barred Rock.

Thanks,
OC

That varies from rooster to rooster I've had some start young and others go without crowing for a while. My guess would be about 12-15 weeks or so.

my golden laced wyandotte started crowing at 6 weeks old. hes 8 weeks old right now. he trys to compete with my 3 yr old roo. its commical.

my cochin I gave away didn't start till he was six months. But he's a cochin so I don't know about a barred rock.

Get this... had one start crowing er squeaking at 2.5 weeks! No, it's not the good clean Iowa air either. My guess is he heard some others crow and had to try it himself. Usually for me it is 2 months to first squeak. They sorta sound like a backwards ooga horn!

Mine are all bantams of different varieties.

I have a 3 week old silkie that does strange 'exercises' with it's neck/beak that lead me to believe "he" is trying to crow (or has food stuck in it's crop???) there is no sound, but the whole physical action looks like a rooster crowing, but no sound yet...

I'm really curious to find out if it's a boy or a girl...???

Mine is very vocal, and raspy, but it's not the loud, annoy the neighbors crow that i'm concerned about.
