When is the mating season?

Yep. The hens don't get a break.
Mount after mount after mount... you can imagine- it must get pretty tiring. Plus they have to squeeze those big things that we eat out of that tiny little hole
They don't have the best life. I can tell you that!

and as anyone knows who has watched them for even a moment (because that's all it takes!), the hens get nothing out of it except rumpled dignity. I'm always amused when they stand back up and shake their feathers out afterwards, as if they are tossing off the stain of the roo upon their plumage.

Hi, I bought a bielefelder rooster for my 10 hens in July 2021. Ever since I got him he has been mating a lot and i feel sorry for them i have hear of a mating season. is there one?
How old is he, in weeks or months?
Yes, they will mate year round, but slow down in winter, usually because the girls are not laying. A 'good' cock/erel will not mate a non laying female.
An 'over-active' male might not be the best for the flock.

I assume you're just kidding......but you do know that shake is the get the sperm up the tract....and probably to rearrange misplaced feathers.
