My pekin and my black runner are a month old today (happy semi-birthday to them!). A few days ago I switched them to Purina duck pellets (grower) after they had been on non-medicated chick feed as recommended by a TSC employee. It didn't take long to find out that chick feed was most definitely not ideal for ducks, but since it was starter and they were almost ready to switch over by the time I realized it, I bought some brewer's yeast and nutritional supplements and waited it out.

I made the long drive back to TSC and switched them over to the purina duck feed since it was the only brand in TSC retailed just for ducks. I also quickly learned that it was literally the ONLY bag left at my closest store, and my babies went through it quite fast considering that it's only available in a 5lb size bag. When I had to run out and get more, the next TSC with availability was twice as far away. Believe it or not, but this store also only had a single bag left. Throughout my hunt for specifically duck targeted food, I've also discovered that people working in feed stores really hate answering questions (lol!). I've called every single store within an hour's drive from me and every single worker has said "Yeah sure, we sell (insert name of food brand for meat chickens here)"... but NO duck feed! I'm kinda going crazy!

I know that non medicated chick food CAN be fed to my babies, but the pekin has had a couple issues come up with his/her feet turning in and I'm afraid that keeping them on an incorrect diet can cause those issues to come back and worsen. I need them on a diet that already contains the niacin and vitamins they need because supplementing won't work forever. In the least rude way possible, I'd just like to ask that anyone replying to this only focuses on recommendations for DUCK food because I'm going a bit insane.

So, does anyone know where I can buy specifically duck feed? Do you have any recommendations on the brand? Is there any place I can order this online? Please let me know!

Welcome to BYC!

Can you call around and ask if anyone can order Mazuri for you? The Mazuri feed will have everything your ducks need, no need to add anything. If you can't find Mazuri, get some Purina Flock Raiser and supplement with niacin.

According to Nutrena Naturewise chart on a Starter Grower feed bag.
Their Meatbird crumble is good for ducks.

Hold your phone or tablet horizontal to make it easier to see. GC

It does suck trying to get any help from TSC employees.
I use Purina Flock Raiser for mine since the duck food bags are small and usually out of date.
With the Purina Flock Raiser and a niacin supplement you should be able to, overtime, fix the problem with his feet.

I’ll second third and forth the all flock feed or flock raiser feed and supplementing niacin. There’s essentially no specified duck feed out there (very little). Flock raiser and niacin is just as sufficient and much more easily accessible!
