where to get mealworms?

My feed store has dried mealworms specifically for chicks/ens but they are like 15 or 16 bucks! Where can I find CHEAP mealworms, crickets, or any other live treats? My girls seem to like bugs and worms more then anything else.

(They are 5 weeks old and have plenty of grit available

I'm sure it is a smaller amount but you can buy live mealworms at most pet stores and sometimes crickets. They sell them for lizard and sugargliders to eat. They are only a couple of dollars. You can also get live crickets at bait stores that they sell for fishing.

You can find them at wal-mart, some gas stations and I get mine at my local gun & tackle store.

Check out Fleet Farm. I think they are even cheaper in the store...got them for about $4 last time and for 6 chicks it lasts a long time.

your local baitshop should have some for pretty cheap

Buy a carton of them, then start your own mealworm farm and grow your own. That's what I'm doing.

We have a vending machine at the gas station where we can get them live... 24 mealworms for $2.00

And I noticed the sign on the machine lastnight, they can also give us discounts on bulk purchases... Maybe I should start my own mealworm distribution business and ship mealworms by mail...

Heck, if you can ship chickens, should be very easy to ship mealworms...

We get ours at a wild bird supply store. They are a blue bird's favorite treat. If you have a store that caters to wild birds, you'll probably find them there. We pay $8 for 1,000 live meal worms.
