Which BCM Rooster to Keep

[Country Birds]

I’m trying to decide which Black Copper Marans rooster to keep based on looks/SOP. Rooster #2 is more dominant and therefore is larger and flashier right now so it’s throwing me off (plus I’m new at this). He is also the dumbest of the two, so I only want to keep him over rooster #1 if he’s better overall.

They are 18 weeks old. I would love to narrow it down to one Marans rooster soon. Any advice would be appreciated!

I'm liking 1 a lot more. He has that blocky, rectangular build that Marans are supposed to have, and excellent depth of body. He's also got that long back Marans are supposed to have. The only thing is, 2 does beat him in having the moderate slope to his body rather than being flat and horizontal, and he is developing faster which is a good thing, however, I do think the excellent body that 1 has beats him out. What do you think @ozmarans

I personally like 1’s body type a lot more over 2’s. 1 is holding his tail up at a good angle as well. 2 doesn’t have as deep of a chest as 1 does. I am not good with their coloring as that is a bit more complicated.

Agreed. It's liable to change because their plumage isn't all in yet but right now 1 has the proper 45 degree angle and 2 doesn't.

This is the third time I’ve gone out to get some pictures and the stars finally aligned haha!

you are absolutly right on the money #1 is true type every thing is in the right place ,. # maybe is larger but has too much fluff ( lose feather) around the thigh ,
she said they are 18 months now ,love to see how they look now ,because we know the chooks body change a lot as they grow ,
