Hello Everyone! I'm Mohammad from Lahore, Pakistan. I am a newbie! :)
Okay so here is the question. I'm just getting started to have some chickens in my house. Which breeds should I get started with? I'm totally a beginner! Here in Lahore, Pakistan there are long summers and short winters. The summers here are very hot! The average temperature in summers is around 40°C! And in winters it is like around 0°C. I want chickens mainly for eggs!
I am thinking of getting some leghorns and rhode reds chicks. Is it a good idea? If not then which breeds should i consider having?

Need some help! :)
Thanks in advance :)

If you can get them, I suggest Black Australorps. They are very hardy, gentle and calm (my children, and now my granddaughter, made pets of them), and the best brown egg layers of the standard breeds. They are commonly raised in the Australian outback where temperatures frequently reach 46 degrees Celcius. I raised them in the northern Sacramento Valley in California where summer temperatures frequently reached 47 degrees Celcius (51 C once), and with shade, good coop ventilation, and plenty of fresh water, they did just fine. I also had them in northern Kansas, where the temperature dropped to minus 34 degrees Celcius one winter, and with a dry, draft free coop, again they did just fine.

Welcome to BYC!!!!
I agree with the idea of the mediteranean breeds. Anconias, leghorns, even hamburgs... Something with big combs to keep cool in your climate.
I also agree with @Atif0005 regarding the golden comets. This bird is a cross between a lehorn hen and usually a Rhode Island Red rooster. The babies will be sex linked, meaning you can tell their gender at hatch by their color. Males, or cockerels, will be yellow; females or pullets, will hatch a light reddish color.

Good Luck!!!!

I have Asils originally from Pakistan. They are really friendly and make good house chickens. Don't lay many eggs, don't get along with other chickens, but the hens hatch chicks better than any other breed or incubator on the market. Hens and roosters always excellent with children, make very good pets, they live a very long time, well into their teens if not 20.
