I see:Finally got a pic of the yellow chick. Hope yall might be able to help ID it.
The poof on the back of head and the amount of feathers on legs are not nearly as much as I remembered. Out of those 2, I'm leaning more toward the French Wheaten Maran pullet. But, heck, I'm just guessing. lol Thank you, NatJ!!I see:
lightly feathered feet
yellow down, but wing feathers appear to be a light brown/tan color, with small amounts of black
normal type feathers, so not a Silkie
comb is probably single, although it's hard to be sure at this angle
no muff/beard
I don't think it has a crest, but I see why you said there's something different at the back of the head. I think that's just the way the down puffs, and doesn't really mean anything, but I can't be entirely sure.
I think it's probably one of these:

But possibly one of these:

I don't see any other breeds on their website that it could be, although there's always a chance I'm missing something.
Me too.Out of those 2, I'm leaning more toward the French Wheaten Maran pullet.
I'm guessing almost as much as you are. But, heck, I'm just guessing.
Right, take basic traits it does have and start eliminating breeds that have traits your's does not have.Me too.
I'm guessing almost as much as you are.
For me, identifying chick breeds it a bit like checking items on a list. Once I've ruled out most of the options, I can make a guess among what's left. I went through the list of all feather-footed breeds I could find, ruled out most of them, and decided it's probably one of the last few. I'm thinking you did something similar. Yes, practice makes it go faster, and makes me less likely to miss important details, but it's still a pretty basic checking process for me. (Silky feathers? Nope. Feathers not white, so not a Sultan. No Brahma variety at Cackle has that down color. etc.)
I had to look that game up, because I'd never seen it before.Guess who?
