Depends. Better for what? I voted Easter Egger because they're hardy in heat and cold, they're calm and sociable with other chickens, they're good foragers, they lay pretty consistently and don't go broody, and, oh! They lay pretty blue or blue-ish eggs. So what's not to love? I'll always have EEs in my flocks.

The Sussex even though I don’t have one. I like their mottled plumage.
I have two SS. I like them too. One of mine is a bit sassy, lol. Even as a chick she was courageous and independent. She would be off exploring, leaving the other 3 SS behind. I thought she might be a cockerel! And she was always "in my face," always up in my business, checking out what I was doing, under my feet. I named her Merida for the main character in the animated feature "Brave."

Sounds like my Delaware, Rose!

Someday I would like to get one but for now I have my Mottled Java Jenny. She has almost the same coloring as an SS.

I've had all of these except Jersey Giants. I don't currently have any speckled Sussex, but I had 2 in my very first flock and I LOVED them! Super friendly, always first in line for goodies. We referred to them as "the butterballs."

I do like my BLR Wyandotte a lot, she's my big quiet gentle girl. A little on the shy side, but very sweet. My SLW was a bit of a brat, I didn't like her nearly as much my BLRW. My olive egger is one of my favorites, not as sweet as my BLRW, but she likes to visit with me and gets along well with my other pullets. And I've had several easter Eggers over the years. My favorite hen ever was a clean faced easter egger. But I've also had flighty, crazy easter Eggers too.
