We noticed our chicken had a swollen eye she was keeping shut almost a week ago. She has been on a topical antibiotic from the feed store ever since, and the swelling has come down and she seems to be in less discomfort from it.

I am wondering if anyone has experienced this before and has some advice. Should she be in better condition by now? Will she regain her eyesight? How long do you typically give antibiotics for?Only one eye is impacted and she is acting normal in every other way. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BYC. That looks like a plaque or pus scab on the eyeball. Can you try to see a vet tomorrow for help? I would try to remove it if possible. It may take warm compress held to the eye to help soften it, then using tweezers and flushing the eye with saline, and applying more antibiotic ointment twice a day. It may take several days. The eye could be blind in the end from the infection. You will need someone else to help you work on the eye while she is wrapped like a burrito inside a towel. Did she have signs of a respiratory infection or disease? I will tag @casportpony for more advice.
