I have a solid white rooster, 3 months old. (white rock) I have many colored chicken hens, what color will the babies be? Does the white wash our or dominate? Do you have any pics of white rooster over non-white hen chicks? (PLEASE DON'T ANSWER IF YOU ONLY LIKE PURE BREEDS.) Thank you. (I have made many BY mixes, but not using white rooster.)

Yes, it boils down to the genetic makeup of the white rock cockerel. There are two ways to make a solid white bird. Dominant white turns what would normally be black feathers white. That means if dominant white were not present that bird would be solid black. Black is pretty dominant over most other colors but there are some exceptions. So you would expect most chicks from a Dominant White rooster over non-white hens to be solid white, but some of your hens may have some of those "exception" genetics. Since dominant white and (mostly) black are dominant, only one of thise gene needs to be present for it to work. So expect solid white but don't be surprised of you get some mostly white or partially white.

Recessive white is different. It turns any color white. It doesn't matter what colors are hiding under that recessive white, could be anything. But it is a recessive gene, both genes at that gene pair have to be recessive white or it does not have an effect. It is highly unlikely any of your non-white hens have that gene so you will not see any effect from recessive white in the first generation. There is no telling what colors or patterns might show up.

So you should either get solid white or mostly white chicks or anything but white.
