I went out this morning to do some gardening. Pulling weeds around flowers mostly. And I had a rose bush that has always had white roses. I noticed it was getting ready to bud this week. But I wasn't expecting what I saw this morning. The otherwise usually white roses, are red.... I've never known a rose bush to change its color like that. Has anyone had an experience like this before? Does anyone know why it changed colors on me?

I have had this happen too..found out the original roses were not winter hardy and the new blooms are coming from the original root stock!!..not only did the color change but went from a full rose to a single bloom!!

Here is what the rose bush looked like before.

Here is what it looks like now...

Had this happen, too. And the plants it happened to had a very scruffy red rose as the root stock

Now I don't buy grafted roses, only rootstock roses. Harder to find, but even if they die back to the roots they come back exactly the same as before!

This is the first time Ive ever heard of this happening. I have bought a total of 9 roses from the same place. Its a local feed store close by to me. Every year I buy atlease one or two. >.< this one was called Crystaline Carolina. The others are peach, orange, yellow, red, and pink. I hope none of them end up doing the same. Ive spent a lot of money on them. Each one costed me $25

I bought mine from a nursery..when I told them about it..they ask if I prune back in the fall and mulch heavy...well I do prune back but I didn't mulch very heavy..so last year I did cut back heavy and completely covered them..all are o.k. this year but I didn't add any new ones either..???

Thank you all this just happened to me. I had this beautiful pale pink long stem rose I planted in memory of my dad. It was such a beautiful rose, it got killed one bad winter and only a part was alive and that grew bushy and straggly and just blossomed red?!? Glad I found this because it’s exactly what I was hoping to find eureka! I’m sad but at least it’s pretty and good to know for next time.
