all my eggs are coming out very pointy at each end and not nice round shaped eggs. i want to hatch artificially and wonder if these are worth trying?
could it be coccidiosis or a dietary need?

Also know as pullet bullets. ;)

Ooh I like that I'm going to have to steal that one! I've been calling them torpedoes too.

To OP: your eggs will vary from bird to bird and sometimes, from week to week. Sometimes you'll get very round eggs, or very pointy ones, or ones with speckles, ones that are darker or lighter than usual, etc. It's all normal. The typical egg you see at the grocery store has been screened for inclusions and sized for the sake of consistency - you don't ever see the "oddballs" because they're not sold directly to customers (they end up in things like commercial food production where the appearance of the egg doesn't matter).

Pullet Bullets :gig
Doesn't quite work with 'hen' tho.
Normally, egg shape doesn't change much as pullet becomes hen at one year old.

Have had several birds lay torpedo eggs....my new Marans pullet is laying bullets.
But I have hope for good hatching as these torpedos hatched 100% under a broody in a frigid Feb.

I find the shape of a particular bird's egg is fairly consistent throughout her life. My RIR always laid a torpedo where you couldn't tell the "round end" from the pointy end. My leghorns laid very round eggs but again it was really difficult to tell which end the air cell was at just by looking at them. I have other mixed breed birds that lay extremely teardrop shaped eggs and the odd bird that even lays what you might consider "normal" shaped.... those are definitely in the minority in my flock!
