from New Mexico!

Actually there are a few diseases that can make chickens smell. Infectious Coryza will make the face smell pretty badly. Usually the face is swollen especially around the eyes. Mites can also make a chicken smell as well. Take a good look at the chick and see what symptoms you might glean from an exam and you might want to post in the emergency section here in the forums.

Good luck with your babies!

Hello and welcome to BYC

Sometimes chicks do have an odd smell. Some of mine does and they are quite healthy.

She's very clean. The smell comes from her skin, or feathers. Do hens have a wierd smell and roosters don't? I can't tell yet if they are hens or roosters. I'm new at this so I probably won't be able to tell until the rooster's tail starts sticking out different.
