Over the past few weeks I posted about my hen who appeared to have injured her leg and was not bearing weight on it. Now, over almost 2 months later, I am still baffled. She was seen and treated by a vet for a mild bumblefoot as the possible source. She had no break, no sprain, a completed course of antibiotics and healed bumblefoot. She has full range of motion, is healthy and appears happy but still is hopping around on one foot. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHY SHE IS DOING THIS???? It really limits her functioning though she eats and manages to get into the coop to sleep in the corner on the floor. No on picks on her but she can't run around to do dust bathing. Just can't figure out what is wrong with her. HELP!

One of my hen was limping for awhile, I don't remember for how long, but I checked her and did not see anything wrong with her legs. Then one day she just completely recovered. My thought is that it might have something to do with her egg laying because she was having issue with that for awhile, laying big egg, strange looking egg...etc I am just guessing.

It is always hard to know for sure what is going on with one who is limping. It is important to make sure that she can reach food and water during the day, and is not bullied. I had a large hen once who limped for a couple of years. She always was down in the yard with her friends, but she laid around a lot. She ate, she roosted with them, but she seemed sore in the one leg. There was no bumblefoot or swelling of the ankle or hock. She eventually died at around 7 years. I suspected a spiral fracture of her leg, but never confirmed it.
