Hi everyone! I have two cockoo marans hens that are pure breed. They lay dark chocolate color eggs. I placed 8 of them, eggs, in a incubator and out of the 8 seven are hatching. But, and this is where I hope I am in the right place, I am getting yellow feathered chicks! 😳. I was expecting them all to be black like the hens. My only possible explanation is that the Roos are EE and they have white feathers? Here are the pictures. Thank you for your help ahead!

The hen in my profile photo was born a bright silver. Her head became black with age and developed a dark pattern. So who knows what will happen? You can usually tell when the wings come in.

I am mainly looking to have more hens that lay dark chocolate colored eggs. My egg customers fight for them! 🤷🏻‍♀️. I know it's barnyard mix. But, I thought my chicks from the coocko Marans eggs would be laying more of the dark chocolate eggs. Will they? Here are pictures of the dads. I'll take a picture of the girls later today when they are put to bed. Thank you.

Wheaten is recessive to most other e allele and it can hide for generations. Wheaten Marans have been used in the past on many other lines of Marans.

On your case if all of your Roosters are white EEs then all bets are off as far as purity goes.
Wheaten? Wheaten Marans? Did they used to be yellow Marans? What do you mean? Pardon my ignorance please!🙄

My Roos are not all white. They are a mix. Check pictures! I included pictures of Red and George!

Hi! I checked the internet. I now know what the Wheaten Marans look like! NOT dark black feathers for sure. Not like mine!

So the question still remains. Are these yellow chicks because of the two Roos?or because they are from the Wheaton Marans gene? Will their eggs be like EE or dark chocolate? Thank you.
