I live in Las Vegas Nevada and recently went to a look out point on the outer edge of town. As i was wondering around looking at rocks i heard a chicken. In disbelief i continued what i was doing. Next thing i know this hen is over by me foraging. It didnt seem that afraid. It tried to do the side step sneak attack on me a few times. It seemed genrally healthy. I have no idea how its surviving so well. I dont think theres water up there and coyotes here are coming into town to eatso its an interesting find. If i was try to catch it and bring it home whatd the best way to do that? I have a small animal trap but not sure if thats good for chickens. I have 3 roosters and 4 hens so another hen sounds like a good idea. What do you think?

I could be way wrong on this but are you sure that's a hen? Kinda looks like a buff orpington cockrel, maybe that's why he's out there - someone dumped him.
If you want to catch it maybe throw some yummy treats and get a towel or blanket over it when it's distracted

I actually am new to this and don't know. I just know it's a chicken. If that's a cockrel then that would explain why he's out in the desert why he acted the way he did and thank you.

Since finding out this is a rooster I am curious to a chicken i have that im not not sure of. I already have 3 out of 7 being roos. This is Partridge, a silky mix

... Hen or Roo? My two black chickens are the only egg layers so far. The last picture is my best egg layer and looks like a roo with all her waddle and comb. This is little confusing unless they crow or lay. The red one is highest roo although was the tiniest chick but the firt to mature out of this group. I also have a meat chicken that i keep seperate since hes much bigger.
