wild Knott's Berry Farm chickens

It was a gorgeous day, so we took the kids to Knott's Berry Farm yesterday, and took a few pics of the wild chickens that live there smack dab in the middle of the city. They seem to mostly live in the grassy lawns around the Knott's pay parking lot. Naturally, my DD and I just had to feed them (Yeah I keep some peep feed in the car with me all the time, just in case of emergency, that's normal right?)
Just for fun, any guesses as to breed and gender? Most seem to be dumped roos.

I wish I had pics of more of them but the rest of my family wanted to keep walking so we could get to the roller coasters.

they all look like roosters to me-sickle feathers in the tails on all of them. the first one i can tell is a cochin. second pic on the left might be something like an EE, i'm not sure about the other bird in the pic. 3rd pic looks like something mixed with a polish.

All are roos.
#1 is a cochin
#2 is a silky cross, with that walnut-ish comb and the tuft on top.
#3 and 4 that have very similar color are EEs i believe. The one you thought might be a hen looks almost identical to my EE roo Bigfoot when he was younger. When he got older his tail filled out just beautiful.

Wow I never would have thought the black one was a silkie X; even with no foot feathering? He is very "different" looking, quite a puzzle!

First Cochin
Second can't see well enough but I have one colored somewhat like him
Now the third of course interests me the most because it is crested. I don't believe it is a Polish cross (ALL of my Polish crosses retain the white earlobes) and I would have to wonder about a silkie cross for the same reason you stated, no feathers on the legs, though I supposed it could be possible. They are rare but it may just be a crevecoeur cross.

There are probably all roos because the hens have probably been victims of a hawk or a night critter.

Usually the roos will remain long after any hens have been taken in a setting as you describe.

Verrry good ideas on the black roo-- he also has no silkied feathers, does he? Perhaps 1/4 silkie or something. Maybee the hens get stolen by tourists, the roos have no value so they remain. No one is stopping anyone from just taking them. Or maybee nobody ever "dumps" hens. Predators I think would be minimal in the middle of the concrete jungle of Buena Park, CA but I guess raccoons can get everywhere. I have to thank you SO much for posting that top picture!!! We gave away our rooster Sean last week and my youngest daughter, who is 7, has been VERY worried about him. She is now perfectly content in her belief that he is living at Knott's Berry Farm! She walked up behind me while I was reading this post and got all excited that Sean was in the picture. We are going to Knott's on Thanksgiving and she plans to look for him.

Now I just might have to pack some chicken feed for the trip! LOL

Ummm you'er welcome! Definitely bring a baggie of feed with you for "your" roo! Hope it won't be crowded for you on Thanksgiving.... so much fun when there are no lines at all! I still love that cheesy Calico Mine Ride the best...
