Someone told me and my mother that a Peacock will kill Chicks, like peck them to death or something. And that you can not keep them with chickens at all. I am not so sure that I believe him. Just want to know the truth and be sure.

Mine never have but that does not mean someone elses will not, my buyer told me when i got my babies that they would kill my chickens but all my chickens are still alive, they will harrase a broody hen, duck with chicks if she jumps just one of them for looking at her babies and that can go on for a few days they hold a grudge for a while but they never go after the babies and i got them hatching out and running around year round.
All my birds are free ranged , mabe if they were forced to live together in a pen the outcome might be different.

I know one of my Dad's friends has Free ranging peafowls too, and he does have chickens as well, and in fact, his peafowls do happen to kill the chicken chicks, however, not every peafowl will go after the chicks. So in my opinion it really depends from each individual's behaviour or something.
Though if you are willing to keep peafowls and chickens, it's not recommended to keep them in a pen with chickens as chickens can carry diseases that can kill your peafowl.

Okay, thank you. That is what I thought. The guy had like 2 or 3 males and like 4 or 6 females in a small chain link dog kennel. I don't want peacocks, just asking. I hate mixing species as it is. I got home late one night and my turkeys crawled into the pen with the chickens. It is drove me crazy and I couldn't stop thinking about them.

Two WILD? peacocks wandered into my neighbors yard and flew over the fence to decimate all ten of my baby chicks 2-3 days old in a few moments. no remains. Waiting to see if a few escaped.
That is sounds terrible

,but did you find the peacocks in the pen cause i know they can't swallow regular sized chicks cause their throat is not big enough to get them down, seen to many choke on a banana , perhaps a top on your pen will stop the peacocks and other critters from getting your birds if that is what happened, i know owls and hawks are terrible for some folks .

I hope they just escaped threw the wire and you find them soon if not a large snake could easily eat 10 babies since you have found no trace of them.

I have four separate attached coops. There were two hens and their two day old chicks in the "Broody" coop. I have a fenced in yard...six foot high and I opened the door so the hens could go our for a quick walk about. I was upstairs when I heard the fuss. The good news is that one hen and four chicks managed to hide and survive. The other hen has gone back to sit on eggs. There were chicks and I am not sure if those eggs are any good. I see no feathers other than small peacock feathers. There were two brightly colored peacocks and one drab one. They are wandering free in this Costa Rica beach resort jungle community. When I went out they flew to the top of the coop.

Well hopefully sense there were no bodies the wee ones escaped and are hiding till they feel safe enough to come back to momma.

If the peacocks did this they will be back i am sure the hen tried to fend them off and if so then they will be after her cause that is how they are at least at my place , my hens can get away and hide where the peas can't get to them till they forget about what the hen did which can take a few days.

I made this fresh brush pile out of tree limbs to give the hens a place to hide from the peafowl.

Wow, that's awful

I hope the chickies are okay. I'm having trouble picturing even a large pea swallow a chicken chick... They could kill one, but couldn't swallow one whole, I don't think. And I don't know if even a totally wild pea would have the skill to take apart a chick... And if they had, I really believe there would be tiny feathers... Is there any way that the chickies might have gotten underneath one of the coops or behind or underneath something else in the yard? Please let us know how this turns out
