If you get a smart one you can bet they will. Maybe not right away but they will.
Mine were about a month off figuring it out I think. Lol. They had it figured out where the humans came from so they sat out there and made a racket whenever they wanted something. They even pecked the door and it was SO LOUD. All it would have taken is one enterprising bird to figure out that thing swung and the lot of them would have wound up in the master bedroom.
As it was every time you opened the door to the house or outbuilding they'd come barging in like a bunch of renegades looking for the nearest sterilite tub that might house the dubia roaches or mealworms in it.
My Tegu lizard knows what it does. He is no longer allowed near the pet door because given a chance he slithers right out.
