Hello Eggers I have noticed when I free range my 7 week old chickens that there has been crows lurking in the trees and they never have been around. The chickens aren't super small but not bigger than the crows has anyone had an issue with them?
Crows will take eggs and chicks, and do nothing for hawks. I have both. Crows may defend their nest area from hawks, other smaller birds do the same to the crows. I myself pop a shotgun off and they go away to tell others to stay away.
Foxes/snakes will kill rats and mice, I dont want them around either,,,,
I’ve never had an issue with crows being near mine. I will see the chickens and crows both eating the leftovers the goats dropped on the ground from breakfast. I’ve never had a crow and my run because it’s covered So I’m not sure about baby chicks and eggs. But I know when mine free range I’ve never had an issue with crows. But only my adults rate range
I can’t speak about crows killing chickens. I used to have bob white. We used to have pointing dog competitions on released bob white quail. ( not shoot to retrieve just live flush, blank guns)
Every field trial both crows and ravens would kill many of the bob whites.
So I would vote crows will 100% try and kill chicks.
I also think a crow would not go after a full grown hen or rooster. Not sure about bantams, I’m still a chicken noob as I will be picking up my chicks May 25 or 26
Cant wait
