Will my button drown?

A couple of my splay legged buttons have developed poop balls on their feet. I have successfully soaked non-disabled buttons feet for this issue. But I’m concerned because these buttons cannot stand up properly.

I would certainly keep a close watch so they don’t drown. But I don’t want any close calls where they freak out and aspirate water and develop lung issues or anything.

Just wanting some advice and reassurance, please. Maybe there’s a safer way to do this that I haven’t thought of.

@TeresaW I have buttons— one is disabled— if I ever have to clean him up, I definitely have to support his body. It doesn’t take much for a tiny quail to panic and accidentally aspirate in a small amount of water, or slip and make the splay leg issue worse. I hope all goes well. 🙂

:confused:How am I supposed to support him when he's terrified to let me touch him? :(

I know it’s a lot of work, but place your hand around him and hold his feet in warm water. The stuff will loosen after a short while. Probably enough for you to gently scrape it off. This is what I do. I hope something I’ve suggested helps you. 🙂

I have a water bowl like this for my quail chicks. The part where the water comes out is very thin, so there isn't much chance of them being able to get in there.
