Still just the 3 laying eggs but I have enough to sell my first dozen! So exciting! I've never sold anything I've made before... (not that I made the eggs but still feel oddly proud)

I got clear cartons on Amazon to display the different egg colors. Hopefully I'll eventually have blue, white, and olive to add to the mix!
nice! where do you plan on selling them?

I'll sell to my coworkers and friends in Houston! I'm the only one who lives out in the country and only person who has chickens so I've got no competition. I've had people asking for eggs since I mentioned I got chicks. Decided on $5 per dozen. Cheaper than the bougie eggs sell for but slightly more expensive than grocery store. I won't make a profit but it will help with feed costs.

Ok! A VERY exciting day today. I came home from a long day at work to find 2/3 regular eggs (1 was taking a break day). But I found THREE new ones!!!! What an unexpected surprise! 3 new layers in one day! They got some delicious soldier fly larva to celebrate.

So bear with me... this pic is the total haul today. I'm going to make an educated guess on who I believe the eggs belong to until I can review footage. Unfortunately, a couple girls laid out of camera shot and not in the nest boxes.

I believe all 4 Barred Rocks are now laying and an Easter Egger. So 6 out of the 11. Which means I'm still waiting on 2 more EEs, my Ancona, and my 2 Welsummer/OEs.

That is awesome! Took them long enough. wonder what is so special about 27 weeks that 3 of them decided to finally quit slacking.

At exactly 27 weeks old, these two girls laid their first eggs together in the same spot. Hopefully they'll learn to use the nest boxes but the Australorp is still being obstinate so we'll see.

Also, at exactly 27 weeks old, my first egg laying Easter Egger! I have 3 but this one is the reddest and her comb has really swelled up. She's the only one of the 3 that's been squatting. I'm in love with the egg color!!!

It takes a couple weeks for them to learn where to lay their eggs. Many times its due to not understanding the urge yet, so the egg gets laid wherever they are at the time. Pretty soon they will recognize this sensation and should head to the boxes. It helps to leave a fake ceramic egg in each box, this helps to teach them where to lay. Pretty birds! ❤️

Thanks! Fingers crossed they use the boxes. I have golf balls in each but wondering if I should switch to something more egg shaped.
