Chicks are still happy and healthy! I'm gun shy because last year I lost 4 within the first 2 days. I love the coloring of the blue copper marans. The black (Onyx? Mystic?) olive eggers have this interesting white mark around the eyes.

So.. chicken math hit me.

I got baby chicks from farm down the road. I wanted Black Copper Marans, Blue Olive Eggers, and more Easter Eggers. They were completely sold out!

So I ended up with 2 Blue Copper Marans, 2 "light" Olive Eggers (supposedly more of a mint), and 4 "Mystic" Olive Eggers. They look like they may be fibro and supposedly lay a darker olive.

They're brooding about 5 acres away from my original flock for the next month or two for quarantine. Then I'll put them in the chicken tractor next to the coop for the "look but no touch" method.

@Logar are you getting any more chicks this year?

I wish, I'm so jealous. I mighttttttt sneak down to tractor supply to buy some but probably not
Well I had no self control... I decided to get these earlier in the year and brood them outside with natural light. I'm hoping that will make a difference when they get to POL. Last year's batch took FOREVER to start laying eggs.

Jersey giant is your favorite? The farm had them but I was focused on egg color!

I will say I suspect my chicks last year were not in good shape when I got them. This group is so active and rambunctious. Now that I have something to compare, I think my original group had some sort of genetic issue or maybe ill. Explains why I lost 4 within the 1st two days. I haven't done anything different except brood outside with a MHP.
