Winter Quilt Block Swap 2013

No blocks, I really think they are MIA, maybe some year they will show up,
If they don't get there by the end of next week, I'll send you mine.

Wow, I was the youngest of 7, two sets of twins ahead of me, I was still the smallest though. long dark hair, not sticky uppy (by my DD #2 was nicknamed fuzzy as a baby - blond hair sticking out everywhere, and it would follow your hand!) Nowdays, I'm the shortest by 5 full inches. My one sister (a twin) is 6 foot, so are all 5 brothers. I'm the stub.

My brothers called me runt.

I did turn out to be the swan, and my big sister was jealous I was small with little hands, and could date anyone. She was always looking for guys taller and bigger built than she was. She was very musculer, and we called her amazon.

Runt? Oh how mean! My brother, who is only about an inch taller than I am calls me "Smurfette"

My son, who is 17, stands about 6'2" and my daughter, who is 19, stands somewhere between 5'7" and 5'8" I'm a diminishing 5'4". She doesn't like being taller than I am and misses the days when she could hug me and reach up for it.

My name is Rosemary and as my mothers name is Mary and my father was a nurseryman who grew flowers I always thought I had been named for obvious reasons but found out not many years ago that I had been named Rosemary as it means "mist of the sea" and my father was a keen sea fisherman !
My daughter was named Esther after my grandmother as my father was convinced that I would produce the first male child in the family and I had to have plan B if it wasn't a boy so named her after his mother which completely shocked him. My second child is a boy ( who was ten this week) and he is called George as in some languages it means "farmer". You can see George and our mad dog on YouTube if you enter..Alfie sings the saints ...... The playing has improved tremendously but sadly not the singing!

Ladies, the Blocks are all amazing! I especially love the star with the center that is 3D and is hand stitched!! I've had the blocks a few days now and have been meaning to get on here and tell you all thank you! I love them! Thank you Marty for hosting this!

I've loved the name stories. If I knew where my mother came up with Angela I'd share. I wish I had more to post about the happenings here in OK. Spring has sprung and we are getting warmer weather and rain. The kids (especially my 3rd grade class) all have spring fever and are getting the "school's almost out" itch. Mix in the "TEST" coming up in April and needless to say I'm busy, stressed and feel it coming out in tears and stiff neck/shoulders. Our Kdg teacher hatches eggs each year, and so she'll be hatching some of our chicken eggs again. I am hoping that a hen gets broody soon so I can put fake eggs (AKA golfballs) beneath here till the babies hatch...Ladies you did amazing with the blocks and I can't wait to set them and start quilting!!

I made the hand stitched stars, glad you like them- they did take longer than I'd anticipated! They are a pattern called shooting star by Edita Sittar , she sells an acrylic ruler to use with a rotary cutter so they are quick until you hit the hand sewing bit!
Snow here today and its Mother's Day here so my daughter is cooking our dinner. I have had a nice day as husband and son took me to a quilt show. Why did they take me? Because the quilt show was held at a airplane museum! It worked very well!!

That was excellent planning on the quilt shows part! I'm thinking about planning a quilt show here in my historic house, but maybe I should let me husband open his small engine and boy toy museum at the same time!!! Hmm... You Brits have really thought this out!

I'm not sure it was thought out, the quilt show was always held in some very very old buildings at a vine yard until some " nice" people set fire to them last summer just weeks before the quilt show and the air museum kindly took the show in but I think it's a win win situation.
The museum is called Duxford if you want to google it, the boys are still talking about it so it must have been good and there is already the offer of a lift to the fall show!

Actually the Quilt Show is held at the Air Museum for a very sad reason. For years and years it was held in an historic, very old building which belongs to a vinyard. It could also be hired for weddings, big parties etc. Last year it was burned to the ground. The loss of something that has stood for hundreds of years is awful, really gut-wrenching. I have heard that the arsonist was peeved because he couldn't book his wedding reception there, the date wasn't available, but that may be a rumour. You can get a little taste of the place if you look it up at www.chilfordhall.co.uk . Please note, although the catering was good, we didn't have the gourmet meals shown on the web site at the quilt shows! The quilt show, which is held in Spring & Autumn, had to be moved in a hurry so its gone to a nearby air museum which is great. Last autumn, I ate my sandwiches beneath the wings a a huge aeroplane. I suspect Rosie did today. You can find the air museum, its called Duxford, on www.iwm.org.uk/visits/iwm-duxford .
