Winter water

Do the nipples freeze up? I checked last night (5 gal plastic bucket with a deicer in it. Tin layer of ice on top but the nipples seemed hard. Like frozen hard.
Are you using vertical or horizontal nipples? The vertical ones do tend to freeze much faster than horizontal nipples. I use horizontal nipples and live in NW Montana where -20 F is not unusual. My nipples have not frozen yet after 4 years of use.

Mine didn’t but I also wrapped the bucket with a silver insulation sheet that hung down past the bottom of the bucket to help the nipples from freezing up.

I am picking one of these up today.... i keep water and food in run and have been bringing the water in every night...can i leave it out when i istall the de-icer?
It'll work better if it's in the coop protected from wind and snow.
But just keep the power connections clear of any snow/rain.

Ive been using this de icer for a couple of weeks now and i just noticed the water seemed somewhat cloudy....could the de icer be causing this at if it is....what can i do to fix
