I need wire to build cages for my Seramas.

I would like to have 1x1 mesh 30 inches tall would prefer for it to come in sheet goods rather than in a roll.

What gauge wire do you use, I was thinking 14 gauge would be ok being that the bottoms will be solid wood the fronts and sides will be wire.

If any one knows a supplier I would be like to have wire asap.

I don't know of anyone who sells welded wire in sheets, unless it is part of a cage kit. Here is a source for wire by the roll: www.klubertanz.com and www.bassequipment.com . If you have Lowe's or Tractor Supply, they sell small quantities of welded wire in a roll.

Do you want to build a long set of cages or individual ones? If they were individual, you could ask for the wire to be flattened and cut to your specifications and sent to you.

Good Luck!

Thank You feed store chick. I will call them tomorrow. I am going to build indiviual cages. My idea is to put cages on shelves.

I am having the hardest time finding vinyl-coated 1/4" X 1/4" wire hardware cloth. I want to build a quail hutch and this would be the floor. Any suggestions?

I don't remember the gauge, but I got rolls of hardware cloth and straightened it out myself. I built my 5' wide x 3' deep x 2' tall brooder from two 3' x 5' rolls (one top and one bottom) and one 2' x 25' roll (for the sides) of hardware cloth, some J-clips, and wire cutters in a fairly short time. The rolls straighten out very well. The J-clips also make very good hinges. The brooder is all wire, no wood at all. Wood would help stiffen it up and probably help you make the door, but I found mine stiff enough anyway.

This photo does not show it well, but the near side shows connecting the top with one side and the other J-Clip shows its use as a hing. I had a top opening.

Now, about the 1" by 1" wire spacing, you do know that a predator like a racoon can reach in and grab pieces of your birds through the wire, right? If you use wire with this spacing, you've got to figure out another way to protect your birds from predators, like double fencing, etc.

TSC sells 1/2 x 1 weld wire 30in by 10 ft roll, I use that for the sides and front. No trouble with coons with that size. now if using 1/2 x 1/2 for the floor coons will pull the legs thru. but on the side and front they cant reach in, and birds will move away in most cases. They can for sure reach in 1x2 welded wire, had that happen.

It isn't vinyl coated but D & B has the 1/4 " hardward cloth. Do you have D & B in St. Anthony's? I was looking for it too and came across it there in the rolls. If you find vinyl I would love you to pm me with it.
