Informative article! Thanks!New information on H5N1 (Bird Flu). They have found it is causing mild illness in people and majority of infections were from the mass eradication of poultry.
Perhaps the best course of action is to let the virus run its course and allow birds to develop immunity, instead of wholesale slaughter…..
The article for your enjoyment.

But, just like we can't become immune to flu, neither can they. It's the same as influenza, which affects adults and mutates continually.
There are studies done on Baicalin (Chinese Skullcap), stopping the progression of tumors in Marek's infected chickens and preventing unaffected chickens from becoming infected, provided they are on it daily.
It's also said it helps with flu symptoms for humans and allegedly is working for HPAIs for chickens. We ordered some in bulk, mixed the preventative dosage into our feed bins, and they've been on it for a few weeks now. We have 30+ silkies, and they're all healthy thus far. ((knocking on wood)).
As for reporting an avian flu outbreak, that's a hard call, but it's being responsible. For one, so our neighbors can take preventative actions, and two, the states get grants for research and more for those who are having the most issues. Some of that $$ goes to the very small and underfunded poultry disease research. Maybe someday they'll actually find cures for these diseases or an easier way to vaccinate them from diseases ourselves.
Almost every silkie is named; most are used for breeding, but a few are like pets. To be told they'd all have to be killed would be so heartbreaking. I think I'd call it quits and start raising quail.
Fayoumi chickens are the most resilient of most diseases. White leghorns are up there. The other thing is just make sure if you buy any chicks in the future, they are vaccinated, or you have the ability to vaccinate them.wow 6 dollars for eggs at festival and yes festival is expensive, looked up walmart 5.00.
Usually I do not look at eggs, but today for some reason decided to look. Guess what few eggs getting not so bad. Couple dozen week.
Yes, the covid virus has mutated so many times I can not count anymore.
I was reading abit history on bird flu, killing eagles, dolphins have got it or course cows, etc
In China, Asia ,then Europe and into Africa
Dogs and cats can get it.
They found the virus in the person which passed in Lousianna and well the virus had mutated.
I wonder if and when possible the virus will be transmitted from person to person. Of course i hope not.
Last but not least my chickens free range.
I have looked for resistant variety chickens and I read if true there are some, but never can find a breed.
So is there actually any breeds resistant?
Anyway been making milk bread, I have made bread before was never real good at it. Trying harder now. Making bread kinda a science behind it.
Vaccinate for flu? I read Dutch did some vaccinations on chickens.Fayoumi chickens are the most resilient of most diseases. White leghorns are up there. The other thing is just make sure if you buy any chicks in the future, they are vaccinated, or you have the ability to vaccinate them.
Ours free range too, and being silkies, they are about the least resilient of most chickens. These aren't vaccinated.
