They were building a Walgreens and it was I a pile of wood to be thrown away. The bench's in my green house came from the same site

The contractors built forms all around bottom and sides and after the concrete was poured and dried they removed the boards and gave it all away (I wasn't in the click and didn't get any of it)

You can find free construction waste (framing material) anywhere homes or businesses are being repaired or remodeled.For liability reasons they give it away and don't reuse or sell it

Well that is good to know… but to get it, do you just have to ask? I’m always afraid of bothering people, so I wouldn’t want to get in their way.

How many hens do you have? You should have one nest every 3-4 chickens, otherwise the hens at the bottom of the pecking order might not be allowed in the nest by the dominant ones. They get bullied out of the nest while they are trying to lay and they must find another spot really soon.
I have 4 hens and I ended up adding 3 nests, 1 main for the dominants, 1 for the bottom hen and another for the broody.

Some people use 5-gallon buckets laid on their sides. Some of our nests are milk cartons. Be creative!

I used large tree pots turned on their side for a bit. But I felt it was a bit hot for them during the summer.


Poor broody Clover simmering in the pot...!

After renovating the chook shed I used a metal storage shelf screwed to a long pallet.


Chamomile loves the new nest!
