The hens were the noisiest egg layers I have ever heard. And we've tried a lot of breeds.
There was one who started her screechy egg song an hour before laying, and kept it up for two hours after.
If that wasn't enough, all of the Cream Legbar hens joined in to every other hens egg song, completely taking over from quieter hens who had actually laid the egg.
They performed at a decibel a rooster couldn't dream of matching.
My mom thought they were amusing but I couldn't hear myself think inside the house. I finally told her if we didn't rehome those hens I was going to lose whatever marbles I had left. She relented.
