I need to know how you litter box trained a dog! That's amazing.

I had a pug puppy, a 3rd floor apartment, and an endless amount of patience. It's truly no different than teaching them to go outside or on a puppy pad. She even shared with the cat at one point, on pine pellets! Can't believe I forgot all this. I guess it's been 20 years.

Hilarious (well not really I guess)!
I dump the pellets in a regular litter tray. I scoop poops out more-or-less daily and then I just dump the whole thing when it is more sawdust than pellets. Probably about once a week - but it is a bit hard to say exactly as I have 3 cats and many litter boxes and my cats change their minds on which is the best litter box to use with some frequency!

Also, and I am not advocating this particularly if you are pregnant or immunocompromised, but I compost the used cat litter. Everyone says not to do it because of toxoplasmosis which can be serious if you are pregnant or immunocompromised. However, I am neither of those things, and toxoplasma is endemic in the wild fox population and I have lots of foxes, so I cannot find a good argument why my cat litter is any more dangerous than the foxes pooping around!
I don't use the cat litter on my vegetable garden, but it goes on the roses or around newly planted shrubs.

I dump the used layer crumble litter in the woods behind the house. I can't imagine that's all that different than composting it, other than instead of going back into one if my beds, it just goes into the ground in the woods. We have foxes as well.

That's so cool! I'd feel so bad for my cats if my spastic puppy tried to share their box.

She was older by then. More like she shared with the spastic kitten, but they were best buds.

I love that. My puppy is 6 months old. We've got several cats, but the youngest is 9 weeks. She and puppy are also best buds.

Yeah. In the winter I do that too. Just now it is all too overgrown and tick-laden so I use the compost heap.
Did you ever notice that if you dump used cat litter that the raccoons come and poop all over it. It is like they are claiming it as their bathroom.
Makes me chuckle.

I have! We have so many raccoons. It makes me nervous, but I've got to trust that webs made the chicken coop safe enough.

I'm debating what to put on the poop shelf under the roosts. I've read coffee grounds work well. But honestly, coffee is kinda pricy, lol. I've also read sand works.

Used coffee grounds aren't that expensive. you use it in conjunction with sand. It keeps your coop from smelling if you happen to have that problem, or if you don't want that problem. recycled coffee grounds

I honestly had no idea you could buy these. I was imagining buying even the "cheap" brand of cans of coffee, and using that, lol. Thank you for this!

For the life of me, I cannot source this in New Hampshire. It makes no sense, seeing as we have a Dunkin Donuts every 1/2 mile. Someone bag these grounds, please!
