She is keeping her egg from freezing. The fact that the snow on her back is not melting indicates that she is not losing body heat.

She is not a pet and would freak out if someone tried to hug her.
Are you letting her hatch a baby? I always wondered where they made nests at, now I know, it is not in trees.

They are ground nesters. No she is not broody. She is just protecting the egg she laid yesterday from freezing. As soon as she gets off of the nest, I will take her egg. I have another one nesting beside the house in juniper bushes.

I started the incubator this morning and will put turkey eggs in it this evening.
