Yellow coming from feather - possibly wound

Hi I have rescued a cockerel that was abandoned - he had been attacked but his neck is recovering very well and he seems much better in himself. I have noticed recently that he has yellow coming from top of his tail feathers - looks a bit bald this patch so I’m thinking it could be a wound from being attacked please could someone advise - any advice would be really appreciated as I’m learning as I go along at the moment

I'm thinking the preen gland is where the yellow stuff is coming from, I could be wrong, I'll tag the experts.

Thank you! if it is there anything I need to do? he seems to struggle to reach it at the moment but as his neck is healing well he is getting closer when he tries to preen his feathers

Yes. Preen gland. Nothing you need to do. He'll eventually resume ability to reach it.
